Travelling with Baby to Korea

My baby was 9 weeks 3 days (2 months 4 days) when i brought her on her first plane trip, from Singapore to Seoul.

We flew with Korean Air and it's definitely baby-friendly. Here I'm gonna share my experience with Korean Air, as well as tips on travelling with infant.

BABY ESSENTIALS

Always have fever patch, thermometer, gripe water and medical items on standby when you travel just in case your baby needs it. Bring moisturizer, baby lotion and baby oil especially if the weather is gonna be cold.

DIAPERS!

If you have luggage space, bring the diapers over. If not, you may choose to buy diapers at your destination. For me, I'm Kiasu, I'm afraid i may not get to find diapers around my accommodation, but i brought the whole pack of diapers over.
Not forgetting the diaper changing essentials!

Powder and diaper rash cream.

Our first trip together sweetheart!

Flying with Korean Air with an infant..
Infant is entitled to 10kg checked luggage, plus 1 piece of stroller!
Call customer service hotline to request for a complimentary bassinet on flight after booking the infant ticket. (subject to availability)
Stewardess on flight may provide warm/hot water upon request. They dont provide milk formula due to safety reason. So bring your own! I actually brought the whole tin onboard.
There is a diaper changing table in the lavatory/restroom.
They gave me a plastic bag which consists of a box of tissue, bottled water, toys etc.
At Changi airport, mummies with baby are allowed to bring your own water onboard the flight (more than 100ml is acceptable). I'm not sure about bringing expressed breastmilk onboard but I brought the whole 800g tin of milk powder onboard.

STROLLERS CHECK-IN
You can choose to check-in your stroller at the luggage check-in counter or at the gate just before you board the flight. And whether you wanna receive your stroller at the gate when you alight in seoul or at the luggage collection area.

I chose to check-in my stroller at the gate before i board the flight and to receive it once i alight the flight.

BASSINET ONBOARD
I did called up Korean Air customer service hotline to request for a bassinet after i booked the flight tickets.
One advantage of requesting a bassinet, is being able get the front row seat with more leg space!
The stewardess installed the bassinet after the flight took off and seatbelt sign is off.

Do note that whenever the seat belt sign is on, babies have to be carried in the arms and not placed in the bassinet.

SURVIVAL TIPS IN KOREA
Baby shower
I found this really useful for travel.

Inflatable baby bathtub.

So portable, easy to keep, and very useful to bathe your baby while travelling!

Sterilizing milk bottles
I tried to sterilize my baby bottles using this Pigeon sterilizing tablets.

I dont really like it because it made the bottles smell like medicine. I would rather just use boiling water to sterilize.

Using stroller in cold weather
The weather in Seoul during my trip was around 10°C-20°C. I bought this "stroller rain cover" to protect my baby from the cold wind.

There are stroller rental in COEX Mall.

And i saw this at Incheon Airport.

Baby formula
I actually ran out of milk powder when i was in Seoul, and i found these in the Supermarket.

Their range of milk powder isn't alot. I took this chance to let my baby try out goat milk formula.

There's also wet tissue in case in need.

Baby wearing
I love baby wearing, especially in such cold weather, it gives my baby warmth being close to my body and i dont have to keep checking on her when she's in the stroller. And i found this "kangaroo jacket" VERY USEFUL. Instead of dressing my baby in winter suit and carrying her outside, i actually wore her inside my kangaroo jacket so she doesnt have to wear many clothes.

Check out the kangaroo jacket HERE!

During flight take off and landing
Try to nurse/feed your baby during flight take off and landing to release the air pressure in baby's ears. If not, try using a pacifier. But if your baby is asleep, do not attempt to wake him/her up just to feed, it's okay, let him/her sleep.

Flying from Singapore to Seoul, my baby was totally fine. But during our return, she fussed throughout the flight journey. The stewardess is so helpful, coming over to try to calm my baby down. When baby fuss and cry, you will definitely get alot of stares from other passengers. Just focus on your baby, dont look around because doing so will only increase your stress level.

Overall, i had a great experience travelling with my 2 months old baby for the first time, with Korean Air. It's definitely baby-friendly!

Stopping Lactation: Dostinex

Yes. I decided to give up breastfeeding.   Because it's eating away my sleep and health, mentally and physically.  People always say, " breastfeeding is the best for your child and try to breastfeed as long as possible, at least 6 months ". Well, it's easier said than done . Now that I've experienced breastfeeding, I'd really admire those mums who actually breastfed for months or years. It's so so so tough and tiring, I swear. For those who don't understand and never knew what's the life of a breastfeeding mom...  Here's an example (newborn).  1am baby sleep. Mummy sleep.  3am baby cry. feeding time  (Latch: 30-40 mins. Or Bottle: 5 mins prepare and warm milk, feed 20-30 mins.) 3.35am burp baby. 3.40am   change baby diaper. 3.45am put baby to sleep 3.50am pump out (remaining) breast milk. 4.20am done pump. Prepare storage. 4.25am store breast milk in fridge. Wash up breast pump and sterilize. 4.35am Sleep.

Hospital Bag Checklist

The Hospital Bag Checklist for delivering in Singapore When should you pack your maternity hospital bag? Try to pack at least 3 weeks before your due date, as it's better to be ready-to-go instead of panicking when the water bag breaks unexpectedly or if the painful contractions finally visits you and by then you won't be able to think properly of what to bring to hospital.  What to pack in your hospital bag? Well, it depends on what amenities and items are already included in your hospital maternity package though. I will be delivering at Mount Alvernia Hospital , and these are the stuffs that's included in the maternity package... Mount Alvenia Maternity packages include the following: Lodging, inclusive of meals (Normal delivery - 3D2N / C-Section - 4D3N) Labour Ward charges or Operating Theatre charges (depending on type of delivery) Nursery charges Daily treatment fee for Nursing services Baby's immunization (BCG, 1st dose of Hep B and Vitamin
